WHAT IS CHABAD JEWISH CENTER OF NOVATO?

Our Chabad House is a home away from home, where we come together to learn and to grow, to discuss, to sing, to rejoice, and to celebrate. It is a place to inspire yourself/family and to develop new friendships.

We have an environment for Jewish men, women and children that is relaxed yet challenging; a place of stability yet full of growth with an atmosphere for reflection, and joyous expression.

IF I AM NOT OBSERVANT, AM I WELCOME AT CHABAD?

Yes, of course! In fact, the vast majority of people who participate in programs at Chabad are not Orthodox.

Chabad is inclusive and non-judgmental, and our programs are open to all. There are no prerequisites for getting involved with Chabad, whether you are affiliated or not, have much Jewish background or none, you are always welcome to our programs or services.

WHAT IS THE GOAL OF CHABAD?

Chabad is an educational organization dedicated to helping every Jew, regardless of background, affiliation, or personal level of observance, to increase their level of Jewish knowledge, enthusiasm, and commitment. Chabad invites you to explore the complex areas of Jewish religion, tradition, and practice in an open-minded and non-judgmental atmosphere. Each individual is invited to participate, study, and learn. Each individual makes his or her own respective religious lifestyle decisions at his or her own pace. Each mitzvah stands on its own as an important step in one’s personal growth.

WHAT IF I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO?

Don't worry, everyone is learning and we each begin someplace. What better place to learn than at Chabad, where our doors and minds are always open for questions and study.

IS IT OKAY TO PRAY IN ENGLISH AT CHABAD?

Yes, our prayer books have both Hebrew and English, so you can pray in the language in which you feel most comfortable. Learning and discussion take place in English - so you'll understand everything that's going on.

DOES CHABAD CONSIDER "NOT-PRACTICING" JEWS AS REAL JEWS?

Certainly. A Jew is a Jew is a Jew – period. Chabad avoids labeling other Jews, since it tends to divide and create barriers between us. We have one Torah, we are one People, and we have one G‑d. Chabad endeavors to bring unity among the Jewish community.

ALL THIS IS GREAT, BUT HOW DO I JOIN?

Joining Chabad is simple! Just come on by. Let’s have a coffee together. The Rabbis favorite place is Dr. Insmoniac’s coffee shop in downtown Novato, or we can meet in your home or ours.

Everyone who is interested in exploring Judaism and who wants to experience the joy of being Jewish is welcome. Even our High Holiday Services do not require membership or tickets. We would love to have you join a Shabbat dinner, class, or holiday event, and you will immediately feel at home.

IS CHABAD OF NOVATO FINANCED BY CHABAD HEADQUARTERS?

It is Chabad policy that each center is supported by the community it serves. All funding for local Chabad programs is solicited locally. No money is sent to international Chabad headquarters. All funds donated remain right here in our community.

HOW CAN I DONATE TO CHABAD?

We are supported by those who appreciate the positive Jewish experiences that Chabad Jewish Center of Novato brings to our community. Although any donation is deeply appreciated, the bulk of our budget is raised through our “Chai Partners" who form the foundation of support for Chabad of Novato.

Our CHAI Partners is our form of regular giving. Your donation of any amount can be billed automatically each month to your card.
