CHS! 2017-18 - Chabad Jewish Center of Novato

This has been the first year of Chabad Hebrew school. We started with a dream and excitement , but weren't sure exactly where it would take us.

This year at CHS has been a smashing success.

The lessons learned , the friendships forged , the fun and games , the deepening of Jewish identity and knowledge , the kids Hebrew reading, all of it has left us speechless and humbled.

Using the acclaimed Aleph Champ Hebrew Reading Program , using the karate color model , our children have begun their Hebrew reading journey with an eager spirit and motivated mindset.

We also journeyed through the first book of the Torah , from creation all the way to the Jewish people ending up in Egypt. We explored valuable lessons and insight from the Torahs timeless stories how to be better people and treat others with respect and kindness.

CHS end of year celebration

A perfect way to end an AMAZING year! This past Sunday, we culminated the Hebrew School Year with a special award ceremony and performance by the children. We played a super fun "Are you smarter then a Hebrew Schooler" game. The children got to show their parents and grandparents impressive knowledge of Bereishis, the 1st book of the Torah. 1st day!

What a fantastic first day of Chabad Hebrew School! We loved seeing all the smiling faces, greeting old friends, and welcoming new ones. Each child received a special Chabad Hebrew School T-shirt, as well as a case to hold their "Torah Dollars" (used to purchase prizes from our Prize Store) We started off with an assembly, welcoming the children and introducing them to Hebrew School and to each other with a fun ice-breaker game. We also had the opportunity to celebrate Shay Fryday's birthday! Happy Birthday to Shay! CHS Class 2

What an AMAZING day of learning and fun at Chabad Hebrew School on Sundayl! Some take away lessons we covered: Humans were the last to be created, since the world was created for them. Our job is to partner with G-D to do goodness & kindness to make this world a Home for Hashem. We can use everything in the world for a positive purpose. G-D's first words after creating the world, (like His mission statement) was "Let there be Light" - This is our purpose in life, to be pillars of light! CHS Class 3

Just look at the smiles and excitement on these children's adorable faces! This past Sunday in Hebrew School, we covered the second Torah portion of Noah and the flood. We discussed how we always have second chances. We learned about the moral and social conduct for all of humanity. The kids eagerly continued their aleph bet books, as we journeyed on to the next letters in the aleph bet.

CHS Class 4

we focused on the 3rd Torah portion, going through the life of Avraham- the 1st Jew - who was the pioneer of monotheism. We discussed the importance of standing strong in what you believe in even if it may not be popular, and also the Mitvzah of hospitality, which Avraham excelled at. We played a fun Aleph Bet game "around the world," and continued with our Aleph-Bet and Torah Scrapbooks. Next week will be the opening of our Prize Store, where kids can buy prizes with their well-deserved Torah dollar

CHS Class 5

Congrats to all our hard-working Hebrew School Students! This past Sunday, the Torah Prize Store opened up, and kids were able to purchase some prizes with their Torah dollars.
The younger class has finished the first 6 letters of the Aleph-Bet, and the older class has finished the first 13 letters.
This past week, we focused on the Jewish value of inviting guests into our home and how we treat others, based on the story of Abraham and Sarah, and how welcoming they were to others. We also discussed the first mitzvah given to Abraham - that of circumcision.

Hebrew school Chanukah Party

Being a modern day Maccabbee was in full display at this past Sundays Hebrew school. A fun game of Jewpardy, creative Chanukah crafts and a special Menorah lighting with yummy sufganiyot was in addition to studying valuable lessons of the story Chanukah in our lives!

1st Hebrew School in 2018

We mastered so much of the Hebrew Aleph Bet with fun games and teamwork! We studied about the 1st Jewish marriage in the Torah, with Isaac and Rebecca, and the character trait that was most important was kindness. A lively discussion ensued about what true kindness means. We also explored about the special Mitvzah of lighting Shabbat candles. The celebration of Judaism was alive and well in this group of happy children!

A fun day decorating gorgeous Shabbat candle sticks and braided our own delicious Challah, both Mitzvot connected to Shabbat. We learned about the first Jews, Abraham and Sara who kept these Mitvzah. Was so beautiful seeing the older children teaching the younger children Aleph Bet. See for yourself!

Smiling Faces at Hebrew School 1/21/18

We had a busy, fun-filled Sunday at Hebrew School! The kids had so much fun putting the finishing touches on their Shabbat candle-sticks, and making a candle-lighting blessings card. Moms, we hope you enjoyed your gift. The best reinforcement of the many mitzvot and middot (good character traits) that the children are learning is to practice them at home. Moms and daughters are encouraged to light Shabbat candles each week, bringing light into your home and into the world. It is so wonderful to see all the teamwork that goes along with learning the Aleph-Bet, and making Aleph-Bet scrapbooks. Each child helps and encourages each other. We finished the day with opening the Torah Dollar store.

Hebrew School Fun! 2/4/18

Fabulous day at Chabad Hebrew School (as always :)) We continued our Jewish Journey through history and learned about two twins, Jacob and Esau. We discussed their different personality traits and focused on "using a Jacob voice and Jacob manners." We played "Pass the Manners, please" and "Middos (fine character traits) Match" to reinforce this invaluable lessons. We have been making GREAT progress through the Aleph-Bet!
